US Department of Defense supplier DCS Corporation has hired Rick Castiglia as its general counsel, replacing Curtis Schehr.
Castiglia joins from Cubic Corporation, where he was GC for its global defence group. At DCS, he will oversee all legal matters and provide strategic advice to the board and executive management team. In addition he will serve as chief ethics officer, taking the lead on all ethics and corporate governance-related initiatives.
He brings decades of experience in US government contracting, specialising in bid protests, contract claims, IP and data rights, export controls and compliance.
Alexandria, Virginia-based DCS provides engineering and systems-based support for the US Department of Defense and other organisations focused on national security.
Jim Benbow, DCS chairman and CEO, said: “With an exceptional track record in government contracts law and deep experience advising defence organisations, Rick brings the strategic insight and leadership that will strengthen our legal, ethics and governance functions as we continue to grow.”
Castiglia spent 21 years at Cubic, having previously been GC at Ira Green, a military insignia and uniform accessory manufacturer.
Prior to his in-house career he worked in private practice at McKenna Long & Aldridge and Howrey & Simon. He started his legal career as an honours programme attorney in the Pentagon with the US Air Force’s Office of the General Counsel.
Schehr, meanwhile, had been DCS’s GC for more than 15 and a half years, joining from DynCorp International where he held the GC role and later the chief compliance officer position. Earlier in his career he worked in-house at legacy military subcontractor Anteon International (as GC) and legacy US defence contractor Vitro (as associate GC).
DCS didn’t respond to a request for a comment on whether Schehr is leaving the company or moving to another role.
In other defence-related in-house moves, back in June last year German AI food business Circus Group hired Helsing GC Sasha Borovik to spearhead its push into the defence industry, where it intends to supply autonomous meal supply systems to military members on base or on the battlefield.
Back in December 2024, US defence giant Lockheed Martin hired Kevin O’Conor as GC from Carrier, replacing Maryanne Lavan in the role.
And in January 2024, US defence specialist Leidos hired Dan Antal as GC from Rolls-Royce, replacing Jerry Howe in the role. Antal had previously worked at Leidos as GC for its defence business and North American operations.
