US healthcare business TailorCare has named George Lyford as its first general counsel to support the company’s growth plans.
Lyford joins from Texas-based clinical healthcare provider Harbor Health, where he was head of legal and compliance. At TailorCare, he will lead the company’s legal, regulatory and compliance functions and advise the executive team on regulatory strategy, governance and enterprise risk. He will also help support the company’s strategic goals to deepen payer partnerships and expand into new markets, as well as other growth initiatives.
TailorCare is value-based care organisation that specialises in joint, back and muscle health, supporting patients through data, predictive analytics, AI and personalised care navigation.
Rachel Winokur, founder and CEO of TailorCare, said: “As TailorCare partners with health plans to take risk for musculoskeletal costs and outcomes, George’s experience navigating complex, risk-bearing healthcare models is a meaningful addition to our leadership team. His perspective will help us continue to grow and strengthen our partnerships, while staying grounded in what matters most to the patients we serve.”
Lyford spent a year-and-a-half at Harbor Health, having previously been chief compliance officer and deputy GC at healthcare insurance distributor Enhance Health for roughly the same amount of time. Prior to that he was chief legal and compliance officer at healthcare provider Bright Health and GC at nonprofit health insurance company Colorado HealthOP. He also spent more than two years as a healthcare attorney at the Colorado Center on Law and Policy.
TailorCare’s GC appointment continues a recent spree of in-house hires at US healthcare companies. Earlier this month, drugmaker Viatris appointed Matthew Maletta as CLO from Par Health, replacing Brian Romano, while in January health tech business Hello Heart hired David Wood as GC from Hinge Health, replacing Dwight Moxie in the role.
Those followed a trio of biotech hires in December, with Sudo Biosciences hiring Paul Bavier as its first CLO from HilleVax, PepGen hiring Joseph Vittiglio as chief business and legal officer after a year consulting for the business, and Tonix Pharmaceuticals hiring Irina Ishak as GC from New Jersey law firm Lowenstein Sandler.
