The days of the power office could be over for lawyers as estate agents see law firms buying less office space. Specialist property adviser Cushman & Wakefield is noticing a reduction in office space in the US by lawyers. Sherry Cushman, head of the firm's Legal Sector Advisory Group, blames 'antiquated areas' such as law libraries for taking up some of the excess space, along with empty offices and traditional design schemes. Real Estate Weekly also predicts that 'the trend towards fewer secretaries in the legal sector…will reduce office space'. Ms Cushman predicts that law firms which have been in their present offices for ten to fifteen years will aim for 'future design efficiencies and operational changes' to bring down space usage by 25 to 40 per cent.
