Lawyers from foreign countries could soon find it easier to practice in US jurisdictions if the American Bar Association follows a recommendation from its Ethics Committee. But it is not likely to recommend outside investment in law firms. The Ethics 20/20 Commission has been reviewing professional rules and is expected to recommend that the ABA Model Rules of Professional Conduct are ammended to support foreign lawyers practising in the US. Despite not being likely to support outside investment, the Commission is expected to support a form of law firm operating structure which would include non-lawyers. Source: ABA Journal
