UK and Africa accounts released by White & Case this week show a £60m increase in revenue to £214.9m over the course of last year, significantly bettering the 12 per cent revenue lift recorded by the firm’s UK and Africa arms in 2014/15. Meanwhile, operating profit has similarly spiked from £59.6m to £88.9m, while the firm’s fee-earner headcount in the two regions has grown 28 per cent to 371. In Africa alone, revenue more than doubled in 2015/16 from £1.9m to £4.2m. White & Case recently opted to expand its Africa practice with a new office in Cairo at a time when the firm has been reviewing and closing offices in other regions, including recent closures in Kazakhstan and Turkey. A statement from the firm acknowledged the ‘important contribution’ of White & Case in London to the firm’s global financial performance, which clocked just 1 per cent in global revenue growth to £1.523bn for 2015/16.
