Women lag behind in Texas law firm promotions

Nearly half (18 out of 40) of the Texan law firms promoted no women or just one to partnership level in the last three years, according to a study by Texas Lawbook.

The total number of females promoted to partner was only five per cent higher this year than a decade ago. Linda Chanow, executive director of the Center for Women in Law, said: ‘It is statistically bizarre that firms can’t promote more women. There is a big difference between talking about promoting women and actually doing it.’ Women account for at least 40 per cent of law school graduates.  K&L Gates, Bell Nunnally and Ogletree Deakins were among seven firms which promoted as many women as men to partnership.
