Landing a job at a start-up company often comes down to networking and connections, according to a group of lawyers at top US start-ups, who say that new companies rely less on recruitment companies and formalised job-search processes. The lawyers were attending an event organised by Above the Law and wealth managers Betterment. They heard the pros and cons of the job, with fund-raising one of the more appealing elements of the job.Working on a small team or dealing with human-resources issues were viewed as the least favourite aspects of the job. The lawyers were also frustrated by external billing processes, griping about the lack of business understanding demonstrated by their law firms as well as unnecessary charges and, in particular, law firms which passed on overhead expenses to the client.
