Gay lawyer sues law firms for defamation

The case has just begun between plaintiff Jeffrey Downs who alleges that two firms, Anapol Schwartz and Raynes McCarty, were guilty of defamation in the way that information was provided about his sexual orientation.

Michael Bowman, acting for Mr Downs, said about Anapol: 'His case is really about how the defendants defamed my client and how the defendants, through that defamation, interfered with my client's employment opportunity with the Raynes firm.' Mr Downs claims that his plan to make a lateral move to Raynes McCarty was ruined when his employer, Anapol, told the firm he planned to go to, Raynes, that he was suing Anapol for discrimination.
