Court cat fight ends seven-year tussle

A nine-month court battle over a missing cat has settled a tug of war between its original owner and its adopted family.

Brandy lands on her feet

Lost feline Brandy vanished in Senneley’s Park, Selly Oak, in 2006, reports the Birmingham Mail.

Legal battle

However, her reappearance last year when a vet scanned the cat and discovered her true owner sparked a legal battle between Senka Besirevic and the couple – who have not been named – who refused to give her back.
According to the report, the couple claimed that that after feeding that cat for three years and even installing a cat flap in their greenhouse they would look into their ‘legal rights’.

Nine lives

Ms Senka then discovered that cats are not a protected species leaving police helpless to intervene, but instead the cat could be classed as a piece of property.
‘Luckily, I found a solicitor who had been through the same thing and took on my case,’ said Ms Senka. ‘It was a huge battle, I felt like I had lost her for a second time.
