Lawyer to play key role in New York mayor's team

Newly elected New York mayor Bill de Blasio has appointed former US Attorney Zachary Carter to the corporation counsel for the city.

Mr de Blasio, who will be sworn in tomorrow, said that no other post in his administration had attracted as much attention as that of the new corporation counsel. He said: 'It became very clear to me that there was no one more qualified in all of New York City to play this role than Zach Carter.' Mr Carter is currently a partner in Dorsey & Whitney, chairing its white collar crime and civil fraud practice. 

Least advantaged

Speaking of his new boss, Mr Carter said: 'Both of us believe that prosperity and access to opportunity should be broadly shared, and that we have failed as a society when we do not meet the meet the needs of the least advantaged among us'. Source: NY1
