Lloyds Banking Group has named Tom Spender as the new general counsel of its litigation, regulatory and competition group. Mr Spender was director of retail and regulatory investigations at the Financial Conduct Authority until departing the organisation in February alongside former FCA head of market monitoring Patrick Spens, who is now with PwC.
Meanwhile, forecourt operator Euro Garages has picked up former Orange legal head Imraan Patel as its first ever general counsel. Mr Patel joins Euro Garages after a nine-year career with the Paris-based mobile operator, the last three and a half of which he served as general counsel for Orange Mobile Enterprise. His appointment at Euro Garages comes amid reports that the company is considering a United States IPO in the next few years.
Fast food restaurant chain Wingstop has appointed Darryl Marsch as senior vice president, general counsel and secretary. Mr Marsch has extensive experience in the franchise restaurant business, having previously served as general counsel for Krispy Kreme Donuts. He joined Wingstop on 25 July from law firm Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice.
In Australia, CHAMP Private Equity has picked up its new general counsel Jeremy Stevenson from local winemaker Accolade Wines. Mr Stevenson had served as GC at Accolade since 2010 and was also a director at both South Australian Wine Association and the Winemakers’ Federation of Australia until June this year.
Finally, Fifth Third Bancorp has reportedly fired chief legal officer Heather Russell Koenig. A statement from the company said only that a ‘personal matter’ had come to light which Fifth Third felt represented a conflict of interest for Ms Russell Koenig, who had held her position for less than a year. She has previously held in-house roles at Bank of New York Mellon and Bank of America and has worked at law firm Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom. Her successor at Fifth Third has not yet been named.
