Baker McKenzie takes the top title as the world's biggest law firm

The crown, which belonged to DLA Piper, has been grasped by Baker & McKenzie on the back of good results.

The law firm moves to the number one position as its revenues went over US$2.5 bn, beating DLA Piper and making it the first firm to break this barrier sunce thge global financial crisis. Headcount at Baker & McKenzie is up four per cent on the back of five per cent turnover growth which has brought total income to US$2.54b in 2013/14. Headcount hit 4,245 on 30 June. The firm takes the number one slot in the world on each of these measurements. The firm also saw profits per equity partner up seven per cent to $1.29 million. Chairman Eduardo Leite said he was 'delighted and proud of how the 10,900 people of Baker & McKenzie have responded to the demands of our clients worldwide during the past twelve months.'

Standout practices

The firm said that its standout practices included Banking and Finance, Tax and Dispute Resolution which all grew significantly. It noted that revenues from the firm's transactional practies increased to over $1 billion for the first time, highlighting increased corporate activity by clients.
