Billionaire moves to stop lawyer leaving the US

NML Capital, the hedge fund run by billionaire Paul Singer, has sought an emergency order to stop Argentine lawyer and former World Bank director Cesar Guido Forcieri from leaving the US.

Buenos Aires

NML have been engaged in a court battle with Argentina over the country’s default to holders of its sovereign debt. NML has been left out of pocket as a result. According to the filing, Mr Forcieri has ‘immediate plans’ to leave the US and he is also a close associate of the Argentinian vice president.

Going home

Greg Bruch, a Washington DC lawyer acting for Mr Forcieri, said that NML’s actions were ‘extraordinarily aggressive’. He continued: ‘There is no basis to say he shouldn’t travel home. He’s going home. It has nothing to do with getting a third-party deposition subpoena.’ Source: Bloomberg
