In Sacramento, California, two separate groups of lawyers have left the city's biggest law firm, Downey Brand, in under a month, for this reason. Another five lawyers left Wilke, Fleury, Hofflet, Gould & Birney to set up their own new practice on 1 January. Craig Brown of consultancy LawVision Group says: 'Lateral movement is increasing nationwide and this may be a subset of that.
