Browne Jacobson has rung in this year’s UK financial reporting season, announcing it grew turnover by 16% in the year to 30 April to a record high of £137m.
The results mark the fourth consecutive year of double-digit growth for the UK top 50 firm, which has added nearly £90m to its topline since 2014, when it reported turnover of £50m.
The 580-lawyer firm noted it had made 13 lateral partner hires over the course of the year – the most it has made in a single year to date. Since 2022 it has opened offices in Cardiff and its first international office in Dublin, giving it a total of seven offices across the UK and Ireland.
Over the year key deals included advising CDS Superstores on The Range’s acquisition of the Homebase brand name, IP and 75 UK and Ireland stores, and on England’s first combined county authority in the East Midlands. The firm also advised on the Infected Blood Enquiry, an independent public inquiry set up to examine the circumstances in which people treated by the National Health Service in the UK were given infected blood.
The firm was reappointed to panels including NatWest and YPO and was appointed to new panels including Serco Group to provide legal services for its UK and European business. It also secured new instructions from existing clients such as Castore, Mace and the Welsh government.
Key hires included included corporate partners Christian Farrow, Phil Pugh and Tom Saunderson from Acuity Law in Cardiff, with Saunderson bringing specialised aerospace, space and defence expertise, and Ireland corporate partner Gavin Bluett, who brought significant tech expertise and joined from Irish firm MacSweeney & Company.
The firm said it had also made investments in a new real estate and construction practice in Ireland and made senior hires across its locations in health and life sciences, government, education, financial services and insurance as well as corporate.
Richard Medd, managing partner, said the results reflected the success of the firm’s strategic vision.
“What sets us apart is not just our ambitious growth, it’s how we achieve it,” Medd said. “We’ve created a culture that combines clear purpose with being a genuinely great place to work. Our people are passionate about making a difference, and that energy translates into exceptional outcomes for our clients. This is just the beginning of what we can achieve together.”
