Commercial courts - which are due to be merged in with the general court system - are generally regarded by foreign lawyers as being fairly well run and being free of political influence.

But experts believe that the merger will force them to leave behind the system of precedence they have built up as regards previous cases. The commercial courts have also taken decisions based on economic reality rather than simply looking at the claims of the individual rival parties.  Yuri Vorobyov, head of litigation Russian law firm Pepeliaev Group, says: 'The new court is likely to focus more on individuals' interests when interpreting many legal regulations.'
