DLA Piper has promoted 62 of its lawyers to its partnership, a slight dip from the 65 made up in 2025.

The largest proportion of the promotions, which are effective from 1 May, is concentrated in the US, where 24 partners are being made up, followed by continental Europe (14), the UK (nine), Canada (six) and Australia (five).

News of the promotions comes as the firm prepares to dissolve its Swiss verein structure after the partners of its US and International LLPs last month voted “overwhelmingly” to replace it with a global LLP.

The firm maintains the move will help it win market share by improving its international coordination.

As was the case in 2025, the corporate practice group saw the most promotions, accounting for 20 of the new partners, followed by litigation (12).

The remaining promotions were spread across finance (eight), intellectual property and technology (seven), real estate (five), regulatory and government affairs (four), employment (two), investment funds (two) and tax (two).

Frank Ryan, global chair and global co-CEO, said: “Our new partners have the judgement, solutions-oriented mindset and collaborative approach that clients expect of DLA Piper. They’ve earned the trust of clients and colleagues alike, and we’re proud to welcome them to the partnership.”

Women make up a quarter of this year’s cohort, a similar gender balance to last year, when the proportion was 23%. According to publicly available data tracked by Pirical, women make up 26% of the partnership.

Under its new structure, the new global LLP will sit above the existing US and International entities, which will continue.

Alongside Ryan and Severs, who is global co-CEO, the firm’s leadership team will include John Gilluly and Loren Brown as vice chairs, Sandra Wallace and Rick Chesley as global co-managing partners, and the firm’s international managing director for clients, Benjamin Parameswaran.

DLA has grown to a 4,800-lawyer firm across 80 global offices since it adopted the Swiss verein structure in 2005. Last year, its global revenue topped $4.6bn.
