DLA Piper has promoted 67 partners across its network in a smaller partnership round than last year despite a significant jump in US promotions.
The tally represents a 13% fall from last year’s bumper round of 77 promotions, putting it in line with many of its international UK-based rivals, the bulk of which have announced smaller rounds than last year in recent weeks.
A third of the tally were women (33%), a slight reduction on last year (35%), putting it just behind Clifford Chance (35%) in the gender diversity stakes and well behind Allen & Overy (45%) and CMS (41%).
Promotions in the US increased by nearly half (44%) to 33 from 23 last year. There were six promotions apiece in New York and Chicago and five across the Texas cities of Austin (3), Dallas and Houston.
The Texas Triangle 'megaregion' has been the target of heavy investment by national US firms in recent years, with Shearman & Sterling, BakerHostetler and Perkins Coie all opening new offices there this year.
On the West Coast there were two promotions in Seattle, two in the Silicon Valley and two in San Diego.
Elsewhere across the globe, the number of promotions in continental Europe halved from 22 to 12, just ahead of the UK, which saw 11 promotions, up from eight last year.
Promotions across Australia and New Zealand also halved to five. There were three promotions in Canada, two in Asia and one in Latin America, that of Santiago-based corporate partner Mauricio Halpern.
There were no promotions in the Middle East, which saw three lawyers making partner last year.

In terms of practice areas, corporate once again saw the most promotions with 19 new partners made up, down just one from last year’s tally. The firm is a consistently strong preformer in M&A advisory tables ranked by volume and topped Mergermarket’s 2019 global table.
The next most productive areas for partners was litigation and regulatory (15) followed by IP and technology (10) and finance, projects and restructuring (eight).
The US promotions came into effect on 1 April, with the rest going live on 1 May.
