Fear of ABSs grows among lawyers

Compliance with the regulator is the main problem facing UK solicitors, followed by concerns about ABS (Alternative Business Structures) - a growing area of concern.

These are among the conclusions of research by the Law Society of 900 practices in England and Wales. Respondents worried about competition showed a growing concern about ABSs - with 34 per cent  citing these rivals, up from 25 per cent in 2012. Worries over local lawyer competitors fell from 36 to 31 per cent. Big Four accountancy firm KPMG is the latest to get its ABS licence and joins others such as BT and the Co-operative Bank.
