Top 15 German firm Heuking has reported a slight dip in its 2024 fiscal year revenue following a record-breaking 2023.
The firm’s revenue slipped to €201.8m over the past 12 months, a 1.6% decline from the record €205.1m generated in the previous financial year. However, 2024 still marks its second best year on record and the second consecutive year revenues have punched through the €200m barrier. The firm said the results indicated that it remains on a “strong financial trajectory”.
Revenue per professional – a key indicator of the firm’s profitability – was above €500,000, though slightly below 2023. The number of professionals employed by Heuking rose 3.5%, the firm said, with hires including banking and finance lawyer André Hoffmann from Linklaters, who joined as an equity partner, and Michael Auer and Timo Piller from SKW Schwarz and Freshfields respectively, who joined as salaried partners.
It also promoted four lawyers to equity partnership at the start of 2024 and seven to salaried partnership.
Managing partner Martin Refuels said: “We are pleased with our stable revenue in these challenging times.”
His co-managing partners – Boris Dürr and Philip Kempermann – added that the firm’s hires over the past year provide it with the foundation for further growth in the coming years in key legal areas and advisory services.
Earlier this year the firm elevated five salaried partners to the equity partnership, including banking and capital markets lawyer Christian Appelbaum in Dusseldorf; equity and capital markets lawyer Christopher Görtz in Cologne; employment and labour law specialist Eva Kettner in Hamburg; IP lawyer Antje Münch in Stuttgart; and disputes lawyer Alexander Weiss in Munich.
It has also just recently hired Andreas Meyer as a senior counsel from Deutsche Bank and Ulrich Weidemann as an equity partner from Baker McKenzie, both in Frankfurt.
Speaking about Weidemann’s appointment on Tuesday (4 March), banking and capital markets partner Michael Neises said the former Baker McKenize lawyer will add expertise in M&A and venture capital deals.
“With the addition of Dr. Andreas Meyer as senior counsel, who will also join on April 1 2025, we will, together with the entry of Ulrich Weidemann, also significantly enhance our capital markets team,” Neises added.
