Hewlett-Packard deputy takes top job

American IT company Hewlett-Packard has promoted John Schultz to general counsel, replacing Michael Holston, who stepped down form the role in December.

The Corporate Counsel section of Law.com reports that Mr Schultz – who was formally deputy GC in charge of litigation –now takes reasonability for all of HP’s legal and compliance matters. He will report directly to the company’s chief executive, Meg Whitman.
Mr Schultz and Mr Holston both came to HP from the Philadelphia office of Morgan Lewis & Bockius. Mr Holston arrived in 2007 and hired his former colleague a year later to help build HP’s litigation department.
