Global law firm K&L Gates has created the K&L Gates Trial Academy to enhance client access to the firm’s bench of experienced trial lawyers and to facilitate training of its next generation of trial lawyers.'The establishment of the K&L Gates Trial Academy in the US allows us to showcase and enhance our firm’s ability to represent clients in high-stakes litigation expected to go the distance – through verdict,' partner Thomas Birsic said. 'When a trial date looms, clients should know that K&L Gates has the experience and capabilities to take the case across the finish line, including when supplementing or replacing an existing litigation team is under consideration.'

Critical trial resources

The Trial Academy allows K&L Gates to bring its resources together to provide advice to clients facing a trial or other evidentiary hearing, whether through long-term development of strategy as a matter develops or on short notice to assist on the eve of the event. By identifying lawyers with significant trial experience, the firm has made it easier for clients and colleagues to tap into the new resource as matters near trial. In addition to the collaboration fostered by this initiative, the Trial Academy also will formalise the identification of critical trial resources (eg jury consultants, trial technology teams, e-discovery capabilities) and, through enhanced internal training programmes, allow the more formal exchange of experiences and knowledge across the firm’s generations of lawyers.
