UK regional firm Knights is further expanding in the Thames Valley area with the acquisition of THP Solicitors.
The deal will see Knights add a staff of 30 to its roster, bringing expertise in advising local businesses, families and private individuals. The incoming group will join Knights’ office in Reading.
Knights will acquire THP for £4m on a cash-free, debt-free basis, subject to customary working capital adjustments. The deal is expected to complete on 25 September.
The transaction is the latest part of Knights’ regional expansion strategy. Earlier this year it said it was in talks to purchase South East firm Moore Barlow, following its £30m acquisition of South East firm IBB Law last year that brought in 140 fee earners and 29 equity partners.
David Beech, CEO of Knights, said: “THP has established an excellent reputation across the Thames Valley and we are delighted to welcome them to Knights. The Thames Valley is an important market for us and one in which we continue to see significant opportunity.
“By bringing together THP’s strong local relationships and expertise with our existing Thames Valley presence and the breadth of our national platform, we will be able to support even more clients whilst creating new opportunities for all our colleagues.”
The transaction follows Knights publishing its 2026 financial results last month, showing underlying revenue had increased 28% to £207.7m.
Rachel Gaylor, partner at THP, said: “We are delighted to be joining Knights. Over many years we have built a strong reputation and loyal client base across the Thames Valley, and becoming part of Knights provides an exciting platform for our next phase of growth.
“Our clients will benefit from access to a broader range of specialist expertise and services, whilst our colleagues will enjoy the opportunities that come from being part of a larger national business with significant scale and resources.”
In other regional mergers, back in May private equity-backed BBS Law and Carter Bond combined to create Orwins, with the new firm also investing in Reading-based Clarkslegal. Meanwhile in May 2025, another private equity-backed firm Lawfront acquired South West-based Trethowans, its sixth regional acquisition.
