Lawyers earn respect but not trust, says study

Lawyers are seen as being low in warmth and trustworthiness - even though they are viewed as highly competent and capable, according to academics at Princeton University.

Subjects were asked to rate 42 different occupations in terms of saying how they were seen by Americans. Lawyers fell into a ‘high competence, low warmth’ group - along with engineers, scientists, researchers, accountants and CEOs. But, even in this group, lawyers had the lowest warmth rating. The authors - led by Professor Susan Fiske - said that occupations in this low warmth group tend to ‘earn respect but not trust’. Source: ABA
