Former competition head Howard Cartlidge and private equity partner Duncan McDonald both announced their departures from Olswang yesterday. Mr Cartlidge has left the firm he has called home since joining from Freshfields in 1999 to take up a position in DWF’s London competition practice. Meanwhile, Mr McDonald has jumped across to Taylor Wessing’s London office, having joined Olswang in 2008 from his role as general counsel for Citigroup Capital UK.
Partner exits continue
Their exits come amid an ongoing period of upheaval at Olswang triggered by the sudden exit of former chief executive David Stewart in mid-2014, which was eventually followed by the departure of most of his senior management team. The firm’s embroilment in the government’s investigation into collapse of British homewares store BHS and the defection of its entire Berlin office to Greenberg Traurig have also made for a turbulent 18 months at Olswang.
