O’Melveny & Myers has hired long-time Los Angeles entertainment lawyer Leif Cervantes de Reinstein from Sheppard Mullin, the latest move to strengthen the firm’s entertainment, sports and media group.
Cervantes de Reinstein will be based in O’Melveny’s Century City office and was previously a partner in Sheppard Mullin’s entertainment, technology and advertising practice, which he joined in 2018 after a two-year tenure at Reed Smith.
Earlier in his career, he served in-house at global entertainment company Fremantle as head of scripted television business and legal affairs. While at Fremantle, he led business and legal affairs for one-hour scripted television development and production at global multimedia company FremantleMedia and its London-based financing and distribution brand and ancillary exploitation affiliate FremantleMedia Enterprises.
Cervantes de Reinstein has represented major US, UK, EU and Asian entertainment studios, production companies and media networks. He regularly advises on media-related corporate transactions including M&A and IP-based investments to film and television finance, co-production and licensing agreements. He also advises media and entertainment industry clients on business strategy and market risks.
O’Melveny chair Bradley J. Butwin commented: “Leif is highly regarded in Hollywood and beyond for his deep industry knowledge, wide-ranging experience, and record of success on behalf of his clients across the media and entertainment ecosystem.”
Cervantes de Reinstein began his legal career as an associate at Latham & Watkins in Los Angeles, and later worked at Bloom Hergott and Rosenfeld, Meyer & Susman. He has dual US and EU citizenship.
Cervantes de Reinstein is the second lateral partner to join O’Melveny’s media and entertainment group this year after the hiring of partner Benjamin Aronson in January. Based in New York, Aronson was formerly vice president and assistant general counsel of the National Basketball Association and held other in-house positions there for nearly nine years.
