Streaming channel Disney+ has hired Deepti Burton as vice president for legal and business affairs for EMEA, according to TV and film industry website Broadcast Now.

Burton previously worked at rival streaming platform Netflix, where most recently she was head of business and legal affairs for its UK and European studios film team, before leaving last year. At Disney, she will report to executive vice president for media networks and content for EMEA Diego Londono and chief regional counsel for EMEA Nikki Keat, Broadcast Now reported.

Disney+ is the Walt Disney Company’s video-on-demand service.

Londono told Broadcast Now: “Deepti brings great energy and experience from UK and European productions in business and legal affairs, working closely with storytellers across EMEA.”

Burton spent six years at Netflix across a number of roles in London and Amsterdam, before departing in April last year. Prior to that she spent more than 13 years at Wiggin as legal director for film and TV. She also spent three years at legacy firm Hammonds (now Squire Patton Boggs).

She said: “There are very few brands that inspire throughout a lifetime – I’ve grown up with the incredible characters, storytelling and worlds Disney is uniquely able to create, and now get to see my kids embrace the magic. I am delighted to be joining Diego and Nikki’s teams to continue to tell great local stories to customers around the world.”

In other recent in-house entertainment moves, back in July former Amazon MGM Studios lawyer and ex-MGM chief legal officer Lesley Freeman joined independent US film studio and Avengers: End Game producer AGBO.

Also in July, US streaming platform Roku hired Disney Experiences’ chief counsel Louise Pentland as general counsel, while in June media giant Paramount Global parted ways with GC Christa d’Alimonte, installing deputy Caryn Grace as acting GC.

In April, Sony Pictures Entertainment hired Disney’s deputy GC Jill Ratner as GC, replacing veteran GC Leah Weil. Also that month, Canadian kids and family entertainment group Wildbrain and Teletubbies-owner WildBrain hired Mark Trachuk as GC.
