Spanish heavyweight Pérez-Llorca has made up 12 lawyers to partner in its latest promotions round, at the same time announcing a new managing partner for its London office.
Effective on 1 January 2026, the promotions cover Madrid as well as Mexico City and Bogotá, where, since the start of last year, the firm has debuted through mergers with local firms.
There were six promotions in the corporate department, including M&A and capital markets lawyer Melchor Álvarez de Mon, who is set to relocate to the London office from Madrid. There were also two in the tax team – Antonio Ruiz and Yi Zhou, both in Madrid – with the four remaining promotions split between finance, competition, regulatory and administrative.
Madrid welcomed the most new partners, with eight, followed by Mexico City (three), and Bogotá, where corporate lawyer Paola Valderrama moved up.
The firm has also promoted five lawyers to counsel, four in Madrid and one in Bogotá, including four in its real estate practice.
Firm senior partner Pedro Pérez-Llorca said of the promotions: “We thank these professionals for their commitment, effort and dedication, and we are confident that, with the drive of this new generation of partners, our ability to serve our clients and our global reach will be further strengthened.”
Pérez-Llorca entered Colombia in May when it merged with Gómez-Pinzón in a move that brought it 120 lawyers across Bogotá and Medellín. That followed its debut in Mexico last year through a landmark tie-up with 100-lawyer González Calvillo, handing the leading Spanish firm the second-largest presence of any international law firm in the jurisdiction after Baker McKenzie.
The tie-ups brought Pérez-Llorca’s lawyer headcount to around 600 globally, putting it among the leading firms in the Iberian and Latin American markets. Since autumn 2022, the firm has also added bases in Brussels, Lisbon and Singapore to a global network that includes New York and the London office it opened in 2014 as its first international location.
The firm has also named corporate partner José Luis Romeu as the successor to Álvaro Ramírez de Haro, an M&A and financing specialist who has led the London office for the past seven years. Ramírez de Haro will return to the firm’s Madrid office alongside partner Ander Valverde, who has spent the past three years developing the debt practice in London.
Following their departures, Pérez-Llorca’s London office will have a team of more than 10 people, including restructuring partner Isabel Villa and newly-minted partner Álvarez de Mon alongside Romeu.
The fast-growing firm upped revenue 33% to a record €165m last year.
