Mr Amaee joined Covington in 2011 and was made a partner in 2012. Prior to that, he served as head of anti-corruption, head of proceeds of crime and head of international assistance at the UK Serious Fraud Office.
Largest growth area
John Quinn, the firm’s managing partner, told Legal Week that white collar work has been the its biggest growth area in recent years, adding that the addition of a ‘recognised leader’ from the English bar like Mr Amaee brings Quinn Emanuel closer to its goal of being able to offer white collar and investigations representation in every major venue.
MasterCard class action
The firm last month announced plans to launch a £19bn class action against MasterCard on behalf of British debit and credit card holders. It is by far the largest case yet under a newly-introduced UK law that expands the ability of private parties to seek collective redress for violations of UK competition law.
