Raft of laws to come across Gulf to help business

Kuwait and the UAE are leading the Gulf states in what looks likely to be a year of reforms to help local and foreign businesses, according to the co-founder of a new law firm in the region, Meysan Partners.

The UAE is pushing through the executive regulations of the UAE Competition law. Abdul Aziz Al-Yaqout, senior partner at Meysan, who has just left DLA Piper to set up Meysan, said: 'The law supports national efforts to deliver the UAE Vision 2021, which seeks to build a knowledge-based economy, the cornerstone of the development strategy.'

Kuwait has just put through its Executive Regulations to the Direct Investment Promotion Law which, says Mr Al-Yaqout, 'modernises the approach to attracting foreign direct investment into the country'. He adds that 'a raft of new laws' will be introduced 'across the Gulf over the course of the year'. Source: Gulf News
