US renewable energy business BlueWave has named Becky Limmer as general counsel, replacing chief legal officer Deborah Collum who retired last month.

Limmer was most recently chief counsel in the US Department of Energy’s loan programme office until her departure last autumn. At BlueWave, she will be responsible for all legal affairs and providing operational support.

Boston-based BlueWave develops and owns solar and battery storage projects across the US.

Sean Finnerty, BlueWave CEO, said: “As BlueWave continues to strengthen its project portfolio, Becky brings significant experience in clean energy finance, regulatory strategy and organisational leadership. Her leadership across complex financings and highly regulated environments will strengthen our legal foundation and support the company’s continued development and long-term success.”

Limmer spent about six years at the DOE, originally joining as an in-house attorney before being promoted to deputy assistant GC and later to the chief counsel role. Prior to that she spent a year and a half as of counsel at Winston & Strawn and just over five years at Norton Rose Fulbright, where she was latterly a partner.

She started her career as a project finance associate at Skadden Arps before taking on her first in-house role as counsel at solar panel-maker First Solar.

She said: “BlueWave has established a strong track record of delivering solar and storage projects that create meaningful impact for communities. I’m proud to join a company that pairs disciplined growth with a clear sense of purpose. I look forward to supporting the team as we advance the portfolio and execute high-quality projects to help strengthen the clean energy infrastructure.”

Collum, meanwhile, retired in March after a legal career spanning four decades. She spent almost three and a half years as BlueWave’s CLO, having previously been GC at Solect Energy and NEC Energy Solutions before that. She also had in-house spells at Ameresco (as counsel) and MFS Investment Management (as senior counsel).

Collum started her career in private practice at Sullivan & Worcester back in 1985.

In other recent renewables moves, in January US biorefining business Green Plains hired Ryan Loneman as GC from Lindsay Corporation, replacing previous legal head Michelle Mapes.
