US medtech company QuidelOrtho has named Nathaniel Sisitsky as chief legal officer, replacing Michelle Hodges who is retiring.
Sisitsky joins from eye-health business STAAR Surgical, where he was also CLO. He brings more than 25 years of legal and governance experience across the life sciences and tech sectors. At QuidelOrtho, he will lead its global legal, compliance and corporate governance functions.
San Diego-based QuidelOrtho is a medical technology company that provides diagnostic testing products to consumers, laboratories and healthcare providers.
Brian Blaser, president and CEO of QuidelOrtho, said: “Nate is a seasoned legal executive with deep experience navigating complex public company environments. He brings a thoughtful, business-oriented approach to legal leadership and a strong track record of guiding organisations through transformations, governance matters and global regulatory matters.”
Sisitsky arrives after just over two years at STAAR Surgical, having previously spent more than eight years at medical device business NuVasive – five of them as general counsel. He also had in-house spells at former medtech company CareFusion (as associate GC) and wireless communications business American Tower (as vice president for legal, corporate finance).
He started his career in private practice at Wilmer Cutler Pickering Hale and Dorr.
Sisitsky said: “Diagnostics are essential to informed medical decision-making, and QuidelOrtho has an important opportunity to continue advancing innovation that improves patient care worldwide. I look forward to working alongside Brian and the leadership team to support the company’s mission and long-term growth.”
Hodges, meanwhile, departs after close to six years at QuidelOrtho, including in its previous incarnation as Quidel before it merged with Ortho Clinical Diagnostics in 2021. The company said Hodges played an important role in strengthening its legal and governance capabilities and guiding it through a period of significant transformation. She will remain on in an advisory role to help ensure a smooth transition.
Prior to joining Quidel, Hodges spent 24 years at Gibson Dunn & Crutcher, where she was a partner.
In other recent medtech moves, in February Becton Dickinson hired Lanesha Mannix as GC from Walgreens Boots Alliance, replacing Michelle Quinn who left the company last year. And in January, health tech business Hello Heart hired David Wood as GC from Hinge Health, succeeding Dwight Moxie in the role.
