German lift-maker TK Elevator has named Lars Sjobring as its inaugural chief legal officer.
Sjobring joins from Swedish steel company SSAB, where he was general counsel and head of legal affairs. As CLO, he will be tasked with strengthening the company’s global legal function, enhancing governance and risk management and working with leadership on the business’s long-term strategic goals.
He will become the company’s top lawyer in May, with the CLO role replacing the head of legal title, which was previously held by Svenja Lemke.
Düsseldorf-based TK Elevator makes elevators, escalators, moving walkways and other mobility systems.
Uday Yadav, CEO of TK Elevator, said: “As we enter the next phase of our development and deliver on our 2030 strategy, the role of CLO will be essential. Lars is a seasoned executive with more than two decades of international experience across publicly listed and global organisations. He is also known for building great teams. I am delighted to have him join our leadership team and look forward to partnering with him.”
Sjobring will arrive after just under three years at SSAB, having previously been CLO at EF Education First based in Switzerland. He also had GC roles at automotive safety businesses Veoneer and Autoliv, and offshore oil and gas drilling contractor Transocean.
Earlier in his career he was director of M&A legal at Nokia and corporate legal counsel at Swedish telecoms business Telia. He also spent just under three years working in private practice as a foreign legal counsel at Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom in New York.
Lemke, meanwhile, will transition to a new role as vice president for legal, ethics and compliance.
Yadav added: “I would also like to thank Svenja Lemke for her leadership over the last few years. We appreciate her contributions and look forward to her continued impact in her new role.”
Lemke has been with TK Elevator since 2019. She previously worked at Thyssenkrupp across a number of roles, including senior legal counsel and as head of legal for its Europe and Africa business.
In other recent engineering-related moves, in February Rolls-Royce said it was hiring Unilever legal head Maria Varsellona as CLO, replacing Mark Gregory who is leaving at the end of this month following a short transition period.
