Scottish firms feel nervous ahead of independence vote

One law firm with offices in both England and Scotland has moved its Scottish-based cash deposits into English accounts incase problems emerge after next week's independence vote.

Scotland could soon vote for independence EQRoy

The firm - which remains anonymous - fears that a run could happen on Scottish banks if the vote, taking place on 18 September, goes in favour of independence. This could lead to bans being put on money being moved between the two countries. A similar situation resulted when Czechoslovakia split into the Czech Republic and Slovakia. A partner at the firm is quoted in The Lawyer as saying: ‘We’re moving our cash to English banks. When Czechoslovakia split the flow of capital was  very quick.’ Source: The Lawyer
