Over 100 Scottish lawyers set up independence group

The newly-launched 'Lawyers for Yes' group, which backs Scottish independence, has been launched with a membership of over 100 QCs, university law professors and other lawyers.

The head is Joanna Cherry QC, formerly lead counsel to the Lord Advocate of Scotland. In its founding declaration, Lawyers for Yes says that independence would create a ‘fairer, equal and more democratic Scotland in which the fundamental rights of all citizens are enshrined in a written constitution and protected by a constitutional court’.
