The Federal Bureau of Investigation began investigating the senator in 2010 after allegations were made that he procured a job for his son Matthew in exchange for promising to help the firm obtain business. Mr Libous is charged with making false statements to the FBI when he said that he did not remember how his son acquired the post in the Westchester County law firm and that no deals were made to facilitate it.
Salary partly reimbursed
The son was employed by the practice for just four months in early 2006. The indictment states: ‘Pursuant to an arrangement negotiated on Libous' behalf by a New York state elected official, a lobbying firm headquarters in Albany, New York reimbursed the law firm for a portion of Libous' salary.’ Source: Wall Street Journal
