Howard Baker, Watergate questioner, dies aged 88

Howard J Baker, Memphis lawyer and the Republican senator who asked the White House counsel over Watergrate 'What did the president know, and when did he know it?', has died.

The announcement has been made by Baker Donelson, the US firm which was co-founded by his grandfather and which he joined and remained involved with, as senior counsel. As senator for Tennessee, he questioned White House counsel John Dean during the Watergate hearings, putting his famous question about the involvement of President Richard Nixon. 

Public policy

Lewis R Donelson III of the firm said: ‘The Senator helped shape our nation’s laws with his sense of justice and his desire to have all people's views heard. I am privileged to have been his friend and to have built a firm along his side that embodies his principles.’ The late senator’s legal practice was particularly focused on public policy and international issues.
