Last year’s Speakers’ Dinner

Next month, legal practitioners, business leaders and policymakers from around the world will convene in Singapore for Singapore Convention Week (SC Week) 2025 – a key event in the global dispute resolution calendar.

Organised by the Singapore Ministry of Law, this year’s edition will take place from 25 to 29 August at various venues across Singapore. SC Week 2025 promises its most diverse programme yet, with new partners joining longstanding collaborators in shaping discussions around the future of international dispute resolution.

SC Week 2025 welcomes several new partners, including the Japan Ministry of Justice, the Bahrain International Commercial Court, the European Chinese Arbitrators Association, the India International Arbitration Centre, the Korean Commercial Arbitration Board and the Korean Council for International Arbitration, all contributing fresh perspectives to the week’s dialogue.

Key highlights of SC Week 2025

  • "Breaking with Convention" Networking Event
The Ministry of Law’s popular networking evening returns on 26 August at the historic CHIJMES, bringing together legal and industry leaders for a night of meaningful conversations and connections.
  • SIAC Symposium 2025
Hosted by the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC) on 26 August at Shangri-La Singapore, SIAC’s flagship event will feature Singapore’s Minister for Law and Second Minister for Home Affairs, Mr Edwin Tong SC, as the keynote speaker. The Symposium will explore key topics, such as innovation and ethics in international arbitration, the influence of international relations on the arbitration community, as well as challenges faced by in-house counsels.
  • Global Trade Congress 2025
Making its debut on 27 and 28 August at Orchard Hotel, this two-day conference is co-organised by the Singapore Corporate Counsel Association and the Centre for Trade Excellence. Themed “Thriving Through Turbulence: Resilience, Innovation & Collaboration in Global Trade”, the event will explore how businesses, legal professionals, and policymakers "can chart a path through complexity with clarity and confidence" amidst a time of global uncertainty, shifting geopolitical tensions and accelerating digital transformation.

Held on 25 August at Maxwell Chambers, this forum will bring together distinguished Asian figures in the international arbitration community to share their experiences, perspectives and advice in this field.
  • IBA Asia Pacific Arbitration Group Symposium
Also on 25 August, the International Bar Association (IBA) will host “Beyond the Comfort Zone – Rethinking Arbitrator Appointments, AI and Enforcement of Awards” at Maxwell Chambers. The programme will examine the representation of Asia-Pacific arbitrators in international cases, the disruptive potential of AI in arbitral processes, and the practical realities of enforcing awards across the Asia Pacific region.
  • LCIA Breakfast Seminar- Recalibrating Arbitration: Reforming the UK and Singapore Acts
On 27 August, The London Court of International Arbitration will host a breakfast seminar to explore upcoming legislation changes in Singapore and UK.

In parallel, delegates can also participate in IP Week @ SG, taking place from 26 to 27 August at the Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre, offering further opportunities for cross-sector learning and engagement.

Participant of the Singapore Convention Week 2024 Ms Lara Quie, Senior Director, Business Development - Forensic & Litigation Consulting at FTI Consulting, said: "The wonderful thing about Singapore Convention Week is how it brings people together. It is an opportunity to strengthen relationships that lead to greater collaboration and economic opportunities. In the turbulent world we are currently living in, it is vitally important to show unity and bolster the strength of the rule of law. Events like Singapore Convention Week help to do so in a meaningful way.”

SC Week supports, amongst others, the adoption and use of the Singapore Convention on Mediation, which strengthens the international enforcement of mediated settlements, and increases the practical value of mediation for businesses. As of July 2025, 58 jurisdictions have signed the Convention, and 18 have become Convention parties.

Last year, SC Week attracted over 5,600 participants from all over the world, underscoring growing global interest in practical, forward‑looking approaches to dispute resolution.
