Singapore-headquartered fintech Finmo has hired Matt Poblocki as its inaugural general counsel to help support the company’s regulatory expansion.

Poblocki joins from Binance, where he was leading the company’s Australia and New Zealand business. At Finmo, he will help strengthen the company’s regulatory and legal functions. He will be based in Australia.

Finmo is a treasury management software provider and is backed by PayPal Ventures, Citi Ventures and Quona Capital.

David Hanna, CEO at Finmo, said: “Matt’s appointment reflects Finmo’s current trajectory. As we grow, building trusted financial infrastructure isn’t just about meeting regulatory requirements; it’s about creating the foundations that allow CFOs to operate with clarity and control. Matt brings a rare combination of regulatory expertise, commercial leadership and experience scaling fintech platforms, which will be critical as we continue to expand.”

Poblocki spent just under a year at Binance, having previously been GC and chief compliance officer at communications platform Zapme and chief commercial officer and GC at payments business BizPay before that.

He also had in-house roles at Carousell Group (as group GC), PayPal (including as head of legal and legal director for international cross border markets, among other roles) and eBay (as head of legal and director of legal and regulatory affairs).

He started his career in private practice at what is now Norton Rose Fulbright.

Poblocki said: “What stood out to me about Finmo is the ambition to redefine how finance teams operate, moving from fragmented systems to connected, real-time intelligence. Finmo sits at the intersection of payments, treasury and real-time financial intelligence – and scaling that in regulated markets requires both strong foundations and a clear path to execution.

“My focus is on enabling the business to move quickly and confidently, while building the frameworks that support long-term, global growth.”

In other recent fintech moves, US-based Solifi last month hired Kevin Smith as chief legal officer from Jaggaer, a newly created position. Also in March, Canada’s DeFi Technologies appointed Philippe Lucet as GC, having previously headed the legal team at DeFi subsidiary Valour.
