US chipmaker Intel Corporation has appointed Aparna Bawa as chief legal and people officer, replacing CLO April Miller Boise who is departing in June.

Bawa joins from video conferencing platform Zoom, where she was chief operating officer covering the company’s ops, legal and people functions. At Intel she will lead its global legal, ethics, compliance, people and culture functions. She will report directly to CEO Lip-Bu Tan when she joins in May.

Santa Clara-based Intel is one of the world’s largest semiconductor chip manufacturers, making components for computers.

Tan said: “The role of legal and people leadership has never been more critical as Intel drives cultural transformation with discipline, speed and integrity. Aparna brings a rare combination of operational rigour, business judgement and people-first leadership. Her experience helping scale global technology companies through periods of significant change will be invaluable as we build a stronger, more agile Intel.”

Bawa will join after more than seven and a half years at Zoom, the first two as CLO before becoming chief operating officer during the Covid-19 pandemic. She previously had spells as GC at Magento Commerce and Nimble Storage, as well as head of legal at Inphi Corporation.

She started her legal career in private practice at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich and Rosati.

She said: “Intel is an iconic American company at a pivotal moment. I’m honoured to join Lip-Bu and the leadership team, and excited to help build the culture, systems and trust that enable teams to do their best work and deliver for customers, partners and shareholders.”

Miller Boise, meanwhile, will leave on 1 June after four years with the company.

In a LinkedIn post, Miller Boise said: “I want to express my deepest gratitude to my team, the executive team and the board for their work in accelerating Intel’s transformation. I look forward to ensuring a smooth transition of my responsibilities as the company works to merge the legal and human resources functions.”

Prior to joining Intel, Miller Boise was CLO at electronics business Eaton. Earlier in her career she had spells in private practice at Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton and later Thompson Hine, where she was latterly managing partner of its Cleveland office.

Last July, US quantum computing and networking company IonQ appointed Paul Dacier as CLO, replacing Stacey Giamalis.
