Slaughters considers opening door to lateral recruits

Having made its first lateral hire in 125 years at the start of last year, Slaughter and May has said that it might make other such appointments to build strength in particularly competitive markets.

Slaughter and May practice manager David Wittman has highlighted critical trends for international firms including the spread of US firms and the need to grow in Hong Kong as issues that the firm must pay close attention to. He was appointed a few months back to ensure that the firm positions itself well in emerging markets. He has now told Legal Week that the firm might consider making lateral hires.

This would be a change for the firm. In February 2014 it made its first and only such appointment when John Moore, formerly of Morrison Foerster, became a partner when he joined in Hong Kong. Source: Legal Week
