Terrorist warning issued on drones as rules gap increases concern

As the US awaits regulations on drones, the Department of Homeland Security has sent an intelligence briefing to police agencies across the country warning that drones could be used as weapons by terrorists.

The intelligence assessment warned that drones could be used by terrorists or other criminals as part of an attack. Federal officials also warn that as they gain broader appeal with recreational users, the number of un-manned aircraft incidents in national airspace will continue to rise. 

Rules lag behind the technology

Draft rules are expected from the Federal Aviation Authority. Kevin Mellott of ERASE Enterprises, an expert in emergency response, said: 'We don't have very good rules on drones. This has been going on for the last 10 years. There's a lot of things that have to come together and they need to get moving because they're behind the technology.'
