News Corp general counsel in big pay day as media conglomerate raises his 2019 pay by 10 percent to $3.45 million.

David B Pitofsky, executive vice president, general counsel and chief compliance officer of News Corp has received a more than 10 percent annual pay raise for 2019, according to a US Securities and Exchange Commission filing from the media conglomerate.

Compensation package

The New York-based News Corp said in the filing its general counsel and executive vice president David Pitofsky’s $3,457,067 compensation package for fiscal year 2019, ended June 30, included: $1,100,000 in salary, $1,135,127 in stock awards, $1,100,000 in non-equity incentives, a post-Dodd Frank Act form of cash compensation, and $121,940 in “all other compensation.” As general counsel, Mr Pitofsky oversees global legal operations including litigation, mergers and acquisitions, ethics and corporate governance matters. As Chief Compliance Officer, he chairs the Company’s Compliance Steering Committee. He joined News Corp. in 2013 as Deputy General Counsel and Deputy Chief Compliance Officer.

Career path

Mr. Pitofsky previously held the position of partner at Goodwin Procter LLP. In his eight years at Goodwin Procter, Mr Pitofsky’s litigation practice focused on white collar defense, government and internal investigations, and securities litigation and enforcement. His high-profile matters included representing a former Big 4 accounting partner who was acquitted at trial in what was then billed as the largest tax fraud case in U.S. history. From 1996 to 2005, Mr. Pitofsky was an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Eastern District of New York, rising to the level of deputy chief of the criminal division. In June 2015, he was recognized on the “Attorneys Who Matter” list by Ethisphere Institute, which works on defining and advancing the standards of ethical business practice. Mr Pitofsky is a graduate of the University of Michigan and Georgetown University Law Center, where he was an Executive Editor of the Georgetown Journal of Legal Ethics. He is a member of the New York Bar.
