In recent years the American Justice Department has been strengthening its hate crimes prosecution program.
It has been steadily increasing training resources for federal, state, and local law enforcement officers. This training is designed to ensure that hate crimes are identified and prosecuted to the fullest extent possible. Building on the impact of these training resources, the Department has now launched a centralised 'hate crime' website.
'Hate Crime' website
The website will provide a centralised portal for the Department’s hate crimes resources. It is intended that the content will be a 'go to' resource of law enforcement, the media, researchers, victims, advocacy groups, and other related organisations and individuals.
The resources will include training materials, technical assistance, videos, research reports, statistics, and other helpful information from all of areas of the Justice Department working on hate crimes.
Other U.S. Anti-Hate organisations
Other 'hate crime' tracking sources in the U.S. include Southern Poverty Law Center, the Anti-Defamation League and ProPublic Documenting hate.
Southern Poverty Law Center was orgininally set up to focus on racism. It has since expanded its brief to encompass the civil rights of all individuals and groups who face discrimination, abuse or exploitation. The Intelligence Project generated by Southern Poverty Law Center tracks and exposes the activities of hate groups and other domestic extremists.
The Anti-Defamation League is civil rights/human relations organisation dedicated to highlightening injustices and faciliating dialogue.
ProPublic Documenting is a partnership of dozens of American media organisations. Their joint venture gathers reliable, verified data on hate crime.
