Volkswagen unable to quantify cost of legal risks

Announcing its first net loss in 15 years when it gave its Q3 results, Volkswagen has said that it has not increased its provisions because it is impossible to calculate their financial cost.

It has warned that the profit for the full year will be 'significantly' hit because of costs related to the diesel emissions scandal. In fact, the car maker has slightly increased its provision from the €6.5bn it previously announced to €6.7bn. 

Considerable charges

Analyst projections on the cost of the scandal to the company have been as high as €30bn. But a Volkwagen statement said only: 'Considerable financial charges may be incurred as the legal risks crystallise.' Source: Financial Times
