Cuts in the provision of civil Legal Aid are the man reason for the lay-offs. Tim Clark, chief executive of Barnet Citizens Advice Bureau, who undertook the research among 20 of these organisations, believes that there are major implications for the UK as a whole. He said: '"I think what’s happening in London is playing out in other big cities.' Funding has dropped dramatically since April when changes were introduced to the Legal Aid system. Mr Clark estimates that there has been a 72% fall in funding for London citizens advice bureaux since then.
