Internal sources have reported that the firm is gearing up to launch its first ever Australian office in Melbourne as soon as next month. Australian legal publication Lawyers Weekly has said that White & Case is nabbing up to 14 partners from a top-tier global rival with an established presence in Australia to form its own flagship team in the country, which according to Legal Business might be Herbert Smith Freehills. The Melbourne practice, which may soon be followed by a presence in Sydney, will be grounded in White & Case’s mainstays of projects, finance and infrastructure work. The firm has as yet declined to ‘comment on speculation’ about the impending launch, but has not dismissed or denied the reports.
