Law firm donations slump in US mid-season elections

Law firms, among the most generous political donors in the US, are giving some 35% less than in the 2010 mid-term polls.

President Obama: Donations down Visions of America

A disillusionment with President Obama, who has attacked corporate America and others of their clients, is being seen as a main factor. A lawyer whose firm is traditionally a large donor said: ‘I was a huge Obama fan in 2008 and still held on in 2012, but my enthusiasm has faded. I’m waiting for 2016 to write my next big check. And I know a lot of my colleagues feel the same way.’

Democrat recipients

The Center for Responsive Politics has collected these statistics, noting also that some 70% of donations go to the Democratic party. The American Association for Justice, a trade group for court lawyers, is the biggest group of legal donors. Source: Financial Times
