Royal Academy sees new general counsel work his art, while Michigan State University fires theirs in a fourth change within a year.

The Royal Academy in London has appointed a new general counsel, appointing the Samaritans legal chief to the role. The Burlington House-based art institution appointed Ben Anstey to the position. He replaces former general counsel Susan Gent. For two years, Mr Anstey was the general counsel and company secretary at mental health charity Samaritans.

Michigan State University has removed former Michigan Supreme Court justice Bob Young as its general counsel, eight months after he started a contract that ran through May 31, 2021. He was ‘relieved of his duties as university vice president and general counsel, a statement said and would receive full compensation for a contract that valued $1.275 million. Following the Larry Nassar sex abuse scandal, MSU has had four different lawyers have run the general counsel’s office in the past year.

Airline payment network UATP has hires a new chief legal officer, Dave Goldwin. He will represent the company on commercial and legal affairs, international issues and corporate governance matters relating to the organization's shareholders and board of directors. Mr Goldwin was hired as part of an effort to bolster UATP's corporate charge and alternative forms of payment, or AFP, processing business. He was formerly an in-house attorney for WebMD LLC.

The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has named Elizabeth McFadden as deputy general counsel for law and management. She will provide daily oversight into representing the commission, its members and employees in litigation and will advise the commission and its divisions and offices on their legal responsibilities, personnel management and budget. The job that entails being the managing executive for the SEC’s office of general counsel, headed by Robert Stebbins.

Leading chipmaker Analog Devices has appointed a new general counsel, picking Larry Weiss as vice president, general counsel and secretary at the company. He will work alongside the Norwood, Massachusetts-based company's chief legal officer. A longtime top in-house lawyer in the medical device industry this represents a move into the semiconductor business.

Jumping the fence, a longtime DLA Piper Partner has becomes general counsel of Chicago wealth management firm Cresset Capital Management. DLA Partner Bill Rudnick is  the company’s first general counsel.

A seasoned trial lawyer, and ex-Disney general counsel, has left Hogan Lovells for a NY Boutique. Sanford "Sandy" Litvack, who spent nearly 20 years as a Disney executive, is taking his practice to Clifford Chance spinoff Chaffetz Lindsey.
