Fortune 1000 general counsel are keeping a greater percentage of work in house than they did a year ago, according to a new survey by Consero Group. Eight out of ten general counsel said that more than half of their work is currently done in house, despite the fact that 81 percent of respondents said they are generally satisfied with the work of their outside counsel. In addition, three-quarters of respondents (76 per cent) said their outside counsel provide sufficient value for the cost. “General counsel are under extraordinary pressure to operate efficiently,” Paul Mandell, Founder & CEO of Consero said. “As a result, they seem to be holding onto more work in house than in the past, presumably in order to minimize outside-counsel spend, despite the value they find in their relationships with outside counsel.” Source: Consero
